Natural fabrics have been used in the making of fine fashions since Penelope first warped her loom. Today, people are turning to natural fabrics once again — for their touch, their drape, their variety, the way they take colour… in fact, for their ability to showcase all the elements that make fabric beautiful. The Festival celebrates and supports that trend, and offers designers a platform for presenting their innovative work in natural fabrics.

Once again in 2007, we will show glorious, original pieces on the ArtSpring stage. In previous years, we have attracted well-known designers like Yvonne Wakabayashi, Lucy Neatby, Debbie New, Sheila Beech and Anne Hadziev — as well as students in textile programs and artisans from across Canada (and beyond) who work in the fibre arts. Each year, we are amazed at the creativity, boldness and technical skill of the artists our Designers’ Showcase attracts.

This year the Showcase will include a ‘meet-the-designers’ reception at intermission, where you can talk to many of the participants about their work.
