Preliminary Schedule of Events

Beautiful yarns, luxuriant fabrics, stunning clothes: all made of natural fibres that come from barnyards and fields, plants and animals, the commonplace and the exotic. The Fibre to Fashion Festival lifts the veil to reveal where all that wonderful ‘stuff’ comes from.

Wednesday through Friday, July 18 to 20: Workshops will be held at various venues.

Thursday, July 19, 7:00-9:00 pm: this week's showcase at ARTCRAFT is "FIBRE FORMS" — INNOVATIVE INTERPRETATIONS. The show will run from FRIDAY JULY 20 to WEDNESDAY AUGUST 1, and will highlight works by ULRIEKE BENNER, DEBORAGH GAINER. ANNA GUSTAFSON, JANE MACKENZIE and JAN SMITH. YOU ARE INVITED to an ARTIST'S RECEPTION on THURSDAY JULY 19, from 7-9 pm, at MAHON HALL. The Show continues daily to August 1, 10-5

Friday, July 20, beginning at 6:00 pm: Keynote Presentation (preceded by dinner); in the gardens and the Gatehouse, at Stowell Lake Farm. In Praise of Hands – Charlotte Kwon, of Maiwa Handprints, will talk about the work she does helping villages in India revive their textile traditions. She will bring along some of the one-of-a-kind fabrics she has collected while doing that work, and will illustrate her talk with some of her own slides. (Those who have seen her DVDs know what an eye she has for framing an image.) Tickets (including dinner) $35, available from ArtSpring (www.artspring.ca or 250-537-2102); ask for tickets for ‘Fibre Festival – Keynote’.

Saturday, July 21, beginning at 8:00 pm: The Designers’ Showcase Fashion Show of works produced across Canada.
