Fibre to Fashion
Those of you who have seen a traditional Sheep to Shawl know how the tension builds while the five members of a team four spinners and one weaver race to card and spin yarn, then weave it into a shawl that's 18 inches wide and 72 inches long all within a six-hour period!
Well, we’ve eliminated the tension, and added a large dollop of fun. Our teams will all spin their yarns, but each team will decide whether to weave, knit, or crochet its finished garment. And the ‘garments’ may well be works of the imagination: for instance, we’ve suggested that knitters might want to produce a set of mittens for an octopus, but the final choice is up to the participants.
In any case, you'll love watching the teams work. Each team will likely use a different method for preparing the fleece; fleeces may be dyed ahead of time, so expect to see a colourful array of yarns and fabrics. And please note some teams will be auctioning-off their ‘garments’, so come prepared to bid on your favourites.
